YOGA THIS FALL 2022 with Anne Stubbs

Hello and happy summer, dear Yoga Friends! Ready to try in-person classes again? Not quite ready to be out there, but okay with online practices? I’ve got you covered both ways, at least for a couple of months! These offerings take us to the end of October for now.

IN-PERSON CLASSES AT OSGOODE COMMUNITY CENTRE (5660 Osgoode Main St., Osgoode ON)

  • large spacious room on second floor; distancing encouraged; maximum 20 participants
  • in-person classes are NOT recorded
  • public washrooms on site; ample parking
  • mask-wearing encouraged until you get to your own mat for the safety of all participants
  • bring your own mat and yoga props
  • facility follows City of Ottawa cleaning and disinfection protocols; and abides by Ottawa Public Health recommendations
  • do not attend if you are unwell, have symptoms of Covid-19, or have been in close contact with someone who has Covid-19

Two programs available:

A) HATHA YOGA Tuesdays 9:15 am – 10:15 am Sept. 6 – Oct. 25 – 8 classes

COST = $120.00

B) YIN YOGA Fridays 9:15 am – 10:15 am Sept. 9 – Oct. 21 (no class on Oct. 7) – 6 classes

COST = $90

ONLINE via ZOOM

Two programs available:

A) MID-WEEK YOGA MIX Wednesdays 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm Sept. 7 – Oct. 26 – 8 classes

COST = $108

B) YIN YOGA Sundays 9:00 am – 10:00 am – Sept. 18 – Oct. 30 (no class on Oct. 9) – 6 classes

COST = $80

HOW TO REGISTER FOR ANY PROGRAM:

Send me an email (yogaimby@gmail.com) with your request and/or questions and I will reply with the waiver and more details. Register for online or in-person classes up to 3 days prior to the start date. Payment by e-transfer only to yogaimby@gmail.com. Fees for online classes are non-refundable.

December Classes and Holiday Schedule 2019

This year, my plan is to gracefully, calmly, and joyfully navigate the month of December without getting all caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season. I am pleased to say that most of my Christmas gift shopping is DONE (thanks to an impromptu shopping afternoon and a great parking spot!). One way to stay grounded is to keep up a regular yoga practice. Mindful movement, focused breathing, embracing everyday moments of joy, and cultivating kindness is a huge antidote to what can be a very stressful time of the year. Come join me on the mat! Here is my schedule for December:

  • Regular Manotick classes continue until Sun. Dec. 22.
  • Yoga-Pilates at NCAC finishes Wed. Dec. 11. For those registered for the winter session, it begins Wed. Jan. 15, 2020.
  • HOLIDAY CLASSES at Denise Smith Dance Studio – 9:15 am – 10:15 am:
    • Tue. Dec. 24 – Christmas Eve Gentle Yoga
    • Fri. Dec. 27 – Candlelight Yin Yoga (bring your bolster and blanket!)
    • Tue. Dec. 31 – New Year’s Eve Hatha Yoga (UPDATE: Unfortunately, this class is cancelled due to poor weather…so sorry!)
      • Please note that pre-registration is required for the holiday classes to secure your spot. Send me an email to put your name on the list!
  • No classes on Thu. Dec. 26, Sun. Dec. 29 or Thu. Jan. 2.
  • January classes resume Sun. Jan. 5, 2020.
  • Throughout December, a portion of the proceeds from each Manotick yoga class will be donated to The Ottawa Food Bank on behalf of Yoga In My Backyard and our yoga community. Did you know that almost 40,000 clients use this service on a monthly basis? Additional donations will be happily accepted at the studio OR donate directly to The Ottawa Food Bank HERE.
  • Recently I had the pleasure of being part of a PODCAST, discussing the importance of slowing down and taking a breath on a daily basis. Listen to Episode 30 here.
  • “SOUL VIBRATIONS” – Inner Work Day Mini-Retreat at Vibration Studios, Osgoode, ON on Sat. Feb. 29, 2020, 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm. Registration is on NOW with an early-bird bonus if you register by Dec. 31, 2019. See MY RETREATS for full details.

Take 5…

…5 breaths, 5 stretches, 5 minutes…Stepping back and taking this little break can do wonders for your mind, body, and spirit!

While longer periods of breathing with awareness, stretching and strengthening the body, and sitting in meditation are more beneficial, sometimes it may seem daunting to schedule in an hour of downtime. So taking these smaller 5 to 10 minute breaks throughout the day with conscious breathing and awareness might just be more “do-able”, and the effects can be felt immediately.

TRY THIS: set the timer on your phone for 5 minutes then turn away from your computer, sit tall in your chair with both feet on the floor and hands in your lap. Close your eyes; soften your shoulders, your jaw, and your face. Begin to breathe slowly and deeply, feeling the inhale and exhale in your body. Continue until the timer goes off. Notice how you feel! Imagine if you extended this to 10 minutes, 20 minutes, etc.!

Here we are in hot and steamy August and we know what’s just around the corner…Back to work, back to school, back to yoga class! If you’ve been missing your yoga mat, it’s time to visit it again (see my post What The Yoga Mat Said).

GREETINGS OF THE SEASON!

With December arriving and holiday plans in the making, it’s hard not to get caught up in the busyness of the season. This is a time when we have many opportunities to practice patience, unattachment, moderation, gratitude, and balance…but sometimes we need a little help. That’s where your yoga practice comes in – it can help ground you, calm your mind, restore your energy, and gives you tools to navigate the challenges of the season. Make it a priority for yourself, then all others around you will benefit!

Info about my classes this month:

  1. Manotick classes at Denise Smith Dance Studio continue until Dec. 17. Last Meditation and Movement class for this year is this Sunday Dec. 13 – 2:00 – 3:00 pm (great way to treat yourself to some downtime in this busy season!). Effective immediately, we will be using the rear entrance (walk around the parking lot to the back and look for my sign – Yoga In My Backyard). Classes for the 2016 winter session resume Tue. Jan. 12 and Thu. Jan. 14. Don’t forget the new Sunday morning YIN classes starting Jan. 17!
  2. I am pleased to announce a special 75-minute holiday class on Tue. Dec. 29 from 9:30 – 10:45 am at Denise Smith Dance Studio. This is a DONATION CLASS – all proceeds will go to children/youth in need both in our backyard and beyond…To register, send an email to Anne to confirm your attendance (class size is limited to 30). ***UPDATE: CLASS IS POSTPONED DUE TO WINTER STORM***
  3. Last chance to catch me at Empower Me Yoga this month for Hatha Yoga – Sundays in December from 9:30 – 10:45 am.

Fall 2015 Yoga Classes Up and Running

Ah these warm autumn days and cool evenings…such a beautiful time of the year! Even my hibiscus is still blooming…

My fall classes are now up and running at all locations – come join me for an hour on the mat!

Manotick Hatha and Yin classes in our new space have been well-received with open hearts and beautiful smiles…I am filled with gratitude to all of you who continue to practice with me. NCAC fall session class is now full with a waiting list – register early to get into the winter session! The next two “Meditation and Movement” classes are Sun. Nov. 15 and Dec. 13 (2 – 3 pm) which include three guided meditations (2 seated and one reclining in savasana) with some gentle movement in between. And Sunday morning Hatha classes at Empower Me Yoga on Carling are a great way to enjoy a weekend stretch. Hope to see you!
